I am not a big fan of Taiwanese "Ou Xiang Ju" except this one. Well, i guess i have been influenced by a friend who keep telling me its a nice show. I caught a glimpse and realised it was fantastic. The story is pretty normal but i would say a lot of sweet scenes. I like the part when they shot the serial in Shanghai. It really protrayed a different China. Shanghai can be as romantic as other places. hahahha...
It has been quite a busy week. I have been working for the last few days. Non stop i guess. hahhaa.. So many things to catch up and follow up. I have missed a few appointments again. Couldnt attend some social gathering due to work commitment again. Grrrrrrrr.... No choice i guess. Went to a fantastic school today. I am beginning to realise why parents want to sent their child to a good school. There is indeed a significant difference if you compare it to a neighbourhood school.
New Year is here in 2 days time. Honestly, the mood is quite sombre this time. I think the recession and retrenchment have dampened the mood of many Singaporeans. To celebrate this occasion, we have decided to book a hotel to usher in the new year. Ha.. This is really something new to me. Well, it will be very crowded on the street.
Indoor celebration should be good. Our hotel location should be able to offer us scenery of fireworks and stuff. I hope it will be a relaxing time there. It will be work again on 1 Jan. whahhaha.. As usual. I have been working on most of 1 Jan. Grrrrrrrrr... It has become a tradition le! Anyway, Happy New Year to everyone in advance.

More Work
Since i have the time to spare, i have decided to blog again at the airport. Whahahha.. Yep, the second time i am blogging from Changi in a month. Quite an interesting experience. I guess after the sky agreement with neighbours in our north, flights have been made easier. Travelling by air is no longer a rich man game.
Have been busy lately with lots of stuff in office. Christmas is round the corner and yet i have tons of unfinished work. I have only completed some, i think more will be done hopefully after the Christmas and New Year holidays. Many pple are on leave, thus delaying some progress in my work.
Well, its holiday season, after Christmas, we will be celebrating the arrival of a brand new year. 2009 will be a tough year with the gloomy economic prospect. More pay and bonus cut will be expected. The more fearful thing, retrenchment. I wonder how many more pple will be laid off. Hopefully, the economy will recover quickly and get everyone going.
Chinese New Year will be in January. I have checked my roster. Hahahha.. Work again! So Sad. Before Chinese New Year is another big occasion, Budget. Well, what will the Finance Minister announced this year. The budget have been brought forward in January to help ease recessionary fears. That also translate to more work coming soon! hhahaha... Got to go.. Will be booted out automatically from the system if i dun log on soon. Cheers.

Recessionary Fears
Retrenchment has been ongoing eversince the world slumps into crisis. Every other week, we hear companies retrenching their staff to cut down on their overheads. The most recent one was Parkway Holdings. Even the medical sector is not spared. It started with DBS laying off followed by many other sectors. People nowsaday feel unsecure about their job. All have the same question in mind, will i be the next one to go?
Eversince the last crisis, some companies changed their employment policies. Staff are recruited on contract basis. That also means once the contract expire, the company can choose not to renew and you are free to go. Well, i guess during recession time like this, it has become a useful tool. Regardless of your previous contribution, when time is up, goodbye to you. No compensation, nothing, it is just end of contract. It is an intelligent way of saving cost.
Many are intimidated by all the recent bad news on the economy. I wonder how long the crisis will last. During the last one, it took about a year or so to recover. Next year will be a tough year. It is not like other years when everyone enjoys huge bonuses. I still remember inflation was high after April, thanks to the oil price hike. However, things got worse when the collaspe of Lehman Brothers and US subprime loan crisis sank in.
Personally, i am taking step at a time. I am not sure what is going to happen the next few months. One thing for sure, as a company streamline, those who are still in the job will have more work. If you are not happy, one is always free to go. To get a job these days isnt easy. I guess we will have to bear with all the cost cutting measures. Let's pray hard that the economy will recover soon, bringing better security for everyone!

Cambodia - Ancient World
Its been 3 days since i came back from Cambodia. It was a fruitful trip. Some pple tot its an exotic place in Southeast Asia. To a certain extend, its quite true. However, i think its more of the country's history and political involvement in the international stage. To be honest, the place is a lot better than Myanmar. Well, it may be on par with Vietnam but definitely still behind Thailand.
I reached Siam Reap airport early in the morning. I was greeted by a breeze. I realised the airports in Cambodia are managed by French airport company. Pretty laid back. The trip began with a trip to Tongle Sap River. Yep, the same river that drown our Singaporean guys one year ago. Had mixed feeling as we cruised along the river. There were pple who live on floating platform in the river. Interesting.
Well, the highlight of the trip is to visit Angkor Wat, one of the seven wonders of the world. Very majestic and magnificient site. I was stunned by the beautiful outlook. There were plenty of historical sites in Siam Reap. They were built by Kings of Angkor Era in the 7th century if i remember correctly. There were lots of statues. Most of these ancient buildings are built by rock. You really wonder how pple in the past did tat. There were also beautiful carving on the rocks too.
However, some were destroyed due to many reasons. It might be due to Khmer Rouge ruling, pollution or political struggle in the past. In Angkor Wat, the place has been lost for 400 years with no one taking care of it. It was when French came and discovered the jewel of Cambodia. After which, Cambodia became a colony of the French government. Some buildings are built in the French style, while road names are in French.
Spent 4 days in Siam Reap, after which i headed to capital Phnom Penn. The S21 prison in Phnom Penn left a deep impression in me. The prison was a high school previously. The Khmer Rouge government converted the school into a prison where they really torture their prisoners. It was scarly. The place is now a museum.
There were pictures of prisoners and the army guards. There were also torture equpiment that were left behind. Some blood stain can still be seen on the floor even after 30 over years. I really pity those prisoners who were tortured to death. Its a history that most Cambodians would not want to talk about. However, the museum serves as a reminder to Cambodians as well as others of such atrocities.
Overall, the place is worth a visit if you have never been. I wouldnt mind going again. Probably the next time, it would be Cambodia and Vietnam trip. I realise Ho Chi Min city is only a 2-3 hours bus ride from Phnom Penn. Well, it's a good choice to explore IndoChina. Historical, exotic and fun!!!

Departing to Cambodia
Since i have nothing better to do while waiting, i have decided to do a little blogging before i board the plane. I guess this is the second time i am blogging from the airport. The other time was at Taipei when i transit from LA back to Singapore. It's pretty cool to blog in the airport.
Its only 5 plus in the morning and i just had breakfast. I took a short nap at 130am and woke up at 3am. hahhaha.. That was really a short one. Well, i guess i could still sleep on plane later. I hate taking morning flight as we had to wake up early. Din catch any proper rest. Hopefully, i can last throughout the day without feeling sleepy....
Hmm... Reminded me of my assignment last week when i only slept a few hours and worked till late in the evening. I manage to survive. This time it's a holiday, i guess it shouldnt be a problem. hahahha... After rattling so much, i will be away for a 8 day trip to Cambodia. Pretty interesting trip with visits to many UNESCO sites. Will be able to take a lot of photos. :P
There was quite a crowd at the checking in counters. I saw many students which i think they should be heading to Cambodia to do volunteering work. So nice of them. It will be good if i took Silkair. Too bad, i am taking Jetstar this time. I took Jetstar on my trip to Taipei in 2006. Quite rowdy trip i remember. However, this is a short flight, i hope it wont be too rowdy on the plane.
It will be non stop work after the trip. LOL. I checked my roster. Once i touch down in Singapore next Thursday, work will begin on Friday till the following week. Grrrr... Nevermind, i hope the next holiday will be coming soon!!! Holiday Freak!

Updates updates
Wanted to do some blogging but was either too tired or lazy to blog. whahhaha.. It has been quite a busy and stressful week. The attacks in Mumbai plus the shutting down of Bangkok International Airport kept everyone busy. I was rushing ard like no other business. I still remember i woke up early last week to check out the earliest flight to Bangkok.
I was up at 430am, had a good shower and rush to the airport. By 930am, i was already sleepy after a nice breakfast at the airport. There was a group of students preparing to do some volunteering work in China. They are supposed to transit in Bkk but got caught up due to the shutting down of the airport. The closure created a lot of problem for visitors from all over the world. Thailand fairly depend on tourism, with such an incident, it will do badly for their country. Eventually, the sufferers are still Thais.
Then came the Mumbai attack that shocked the world. Some pple call it India 911. It was quite bad with nearly 200 killed. Out of those killed, one of them is a Singaporean. When the news came, everyone was upset. I mean it just shocked the whole nation. Ms Lo was the first singaporean victim to be killed in a terrorist attack. She was held as a hostage in Mumbai but sad to say, she din survive. I guess its a hard time for her family to accept. She was there for a business trip but came back as a terrorist victim. I hope she can rest in peace while her family members emerge stronger.
On a better note, a friend from KL came to look for me over the last few days. It was quite an interesting affair as i brought him around like a tour guide. hmmm... I realise Singaporean really have nothing much to boast about. hahha... We went around shopping and also to Sentosa. I let him have an oppt to see how Singaporeans live. I even brought him to Serangoon Garden for some nice food. hahha.. Though its not his first trip here, i guess he get to see quite a lot this time.
Its time for Cambodia! I am gearing up for the trip. I changed some money on Sunday and did some simple packing. Gosh, getting excited liao. hahhaha... It will be an early flight. I hope i can relax and have some good fun. More importantly, to relax a while away from work. :P I need a rest ok. hahahhah.....
