Happy Moo Year

The year of the Ox is here. Well, this year's lunar new year is earlier than any other year. Being early, it was a mad rush for everyone. My mum was still asking why is time so short this year. Lunar new year usually falls on February, this year was early. I think next year will be mid Febuary, if i remember correctly is Valentine Day.

On eve, i was working. Plenty of good food in office thanks to some sponsors. The food did lift the spirits for many since most couldnt have reunion dinner at home. I brought some nice cooked food and added more from the kind sponsors. We had a Lo Hei session with coconut milk, the usual sauce and cat fish! It turned out to be good. hahahha...

The first day of CNY was another rush for me. Went to jun's granny place in the afternoon. Well i tried to visit her granny cos i wont have the time if we were to schedule for another day. After which, we headed home and once again my cousins were all here. Kids running around, adults eating and chatting. hahha.. Very noisy too. lol

By night, we headed to some grand aunt place. wow. I fell asleep on the train while on our way there. hahahha.. Too tired from all the mad rush. Jun asked if i wanted to join her friends at Holland Village for another session. I told her i am too tired to do anyting. hahhaa.. I slept very early yesterday, ard 1230am. hahha... Tats a record. Jordan came and slept with me. hahha.. So nice. Probably one day when Javier grows older, he can sleep with me too. :P

Its back to work on the second day of CNY. Low morale. Edwyn came home. Sad to say, i dun have the time to meet him and everyone else. sigh... It ok. That is part and parcel of life. Work continues tomolo and hopefully a greater year ahead!

Not an Ordinary Budget

The annual budget has been brought forward this year to help ease the recessionary fear that Singapore is facing. It was meant to be "not an ordinary" budget. True enough, it was. I mean we have to seek the president approval to dip into our reserves to tie us over this crisis. Well, since independence, we have never experience such tough times. When we were still an emerging economy, we were still growing but not to this extend.

This year, which even our leaders have said, is the most difficult time that Singapore is facing. It is even worse than financial crisis in 97, slow down in 86 and even the oil crisis in 73. I mean this is really tough as everyone is feeling the pinch with pay cuts, retrenchment and bonus loses. Even i have to scale back my overseas trip to manage the current crisis. I guess we are over dependent by external economies and eventually faces crisis once major economies suffer setback.

I am encouraged by the tax rebate given by the govt, 20%. However, i hope it could be more. I mean more pple are getting pay cuts and things are still expensive. Prices of goods have not come down ever since inflation early last year. The GST credit has been doubled to help us manage the crisis. Although it is a temporary measure, a little still help. But sad to say, the pay cut is too much and it is unable to cover the losses.

Lunar New Year is round the corner and i am cutting a lot of my budget too. I only bought one shirt. No more new year goodies from me. hahaha.. Cut down on other transport, overseas trip and clubbing expenses too. To stay at home is the best liao. hahaha... No need to spent and rot away. lol. But pay cut still come with more work, i still need to destress. How? So dilemma. Try to save as much as possible lor!

Obama Era

Chiong Chiong Chiong! Well, tat does not mean clubbing! hahahha.. The usual mad rush tat i got from work, free time and watsoever. hahahha.. This week has been a hectic one, with the major events occuring on the same week. First is the inauguration of American first black president Barack Obama. Next, the "not so ordinary" budget that we can expect from the finance ministry.

The inauguration inWashington was indeed magnificent. Despite the chilling winds, millions of American turned up at Capitol Hill, to witness their country's history. Across the globe, millions of pple tuned in to TV to see live pictures of the inauguration ceremony. For tat moment, i tot it was so proud to be an American.

As mentioned, United States of America is united not because of race, religion or language. They are united by one common belief, the land of freedom. I am so touched by what the president or senior senator had said. And who in the world would dare to make such a comment? Yes, only the most powerful nation in the world.

Americans are united no matter who runs the country. Although they were disappointed by the republicans, that does not mean they hate them or would want to destroy them. I like the way the parties "rotate" during different terms in office. Each party has their own sets of governing and eventually leads to the propserity of the country. I wonder how it would be like if it applies to here at home too. I guess, it will be tough.

Back home, the recent saga involving a perm sect that went on vacation with his family to take up a cooking class create an uproar among Singaporeans. When i first read the article, my immediate reaction was, wow, such a nice father! But on second thoughts, i felt it was unfair to other fellow Singaporeans who are suffering.

In time of crisis, we should stand united and help our fellow man. But sharing abt a trip to Paris doesnt really help at all. In fact, it make the situation worse. Like wat the minister said, it was such a disappointment. The civil servant lack of sensitivity. Hmm... I really wonder did he really think twice before sharing with other Singaporeans. I mean after all this guy should be some scholar and couldnt have made such "insensitive" comments. Well, the incident has passed. Life should move on and lets continue to work hard!

NTU Gang

Another late post again. Life have been busy over the last 10 days. More work but less social time. I have been trying my best to meet up many pple. hahhaha... Though i cant meet some, i hope they would understand my plight. Priority have to be given to closer ones. :P I am really getting tired after all the hassle of rushing and meeting deadline. My motivation is always when is the next off day. hahahhah...

Met up NTU gang last week. Many updates from them. 3 gals are getting married on the same month this year. Surprise surprise! I think June must be a auspicious month. One will be at Fullerton Hotel, one at Rendevous Hotel and the other at Grand Park Royal. Not bad, very cool. According to Chinese belief, the 3 married couples could not attend each other weddings. well well... I am not sure if i have tat sufficient time to attend all. Try my best.

Gavin has been given a new role in 2009. He no longer needs to do go onboard and can finally have some good time in office. He felt pressurised by the new role. However, i guess its only a start. As time progresses, he should get a hand of it. I mean it is always hard to refit into a new working culture. At least he din suffer a pay cut. lol... Not like us. haiz.... Shorter working days come with pay cut.

Lunar New Year is round the corner but i dun feel anything yet. hahhaha.. Is it becos i am overwhelmed with work or too busy to think abt CNY? hahahha... After new year, i will be one year older. This is a special year for me. Why? hahhaha.. Only privilege pple will know my age. Though i am always 25, but i got to admit i am getting old. hahahhaha...

Oh to add to the festive occasion, i have bought myself a new burberry polo! wow! rich! hahahha.. Nah, its 70% discount. Worth to buy. Even leon bought too. lol. I think his pocket burnt a huge hole after buying it. hahahahhaha.. Well, since it is Chinese New Year, i guess getting something you like is perfectly fine. More importantly, be happy!

4th Anniversary

Finally have sometime to blog. 2009 have finally arrived. I have been busy and this is definitely a delayed post. Life isnt easy after July 2008. The country slumps into recession and everyone is constantly in fear of a retrenchment. More responsiblities have been added on me. My social time is even shorter. Life has always been running ard and time flies.

I have been told by a colleague she is leaving soon. After 8 years here, it is finally time to say goodbye. We were ex-colleagues since Safra days. Well, its due to personal reasons that she decides to move to a more stable job. I guess our job is something not many can understand. Our partners need to be really understanding if we have plan to start a family.

Working hours are irregular. Sometimes its long. Time for family or even friends is really minimal. So whenever there is an opportunity, no one would wanna waste it. hahhaha... Honestly, i have pushed away tons of appointments. hahha.. Some friends are understanding while others have started complaining.

Well, today marks the fourth anniversary working over here. If you look at my prior post, you will realise it hasnt been easy. It took me great effort to build up to wat i had today. If you ask me how i feel on this special day, i will say, work and more work. The degree of satisfaction is there but many sacrifices have been made. Nonetheless, hopefully there will be greater years ahead or even better opportunities in time to come!

On the eve of 2009, I was running a fever. Quite sad. I was given 2 days mc due to high fever. We din cancel the countdown at the hotel. It proceed as usual, just tat i was feeling giddy and body is burning. Thankfully, the fever subsided and we managed to usher into the new year. The fire display was great. We managed to catch a good view at the hotel. There were champagn but i din drink. hahahhaha... Well, my fever subsided before the clock strikes 12am. Hee.. I hope tat also signifiies good luck in the year ahead. Cheer everyone!
