It was my first celebration of halloween in Singapore. Hee. I din know it was a big event for most nite spots either in mohamed Sultan, Chimes or even Orchard. I was at MS last nite and there was this VERY BIG group of expatriates and locals who dressed up for the occasion. It was so cool. They really spent effort to dress up. Some masquerade to be Gladiator, Nurses, Surgeons, FBI, sex icons etc. It was really something new to me after 25 years. Everyone knows that US celebrate halloween, Asians seldom do that. And i can thus conclude that there are more foreigners staying in Singapore.
Singaporeans are generally shy and risk adverse. If anyone is asked to dress up for halloween, i think most reaction will be "har? dun want lar" The Ang Mohs are so open. Well, i think this form of culture should be brought in. Relax and have fun. Our social stigma is still there. But i believe that as time moves on, Halloween will be a great event here. Probably it is still the beginning, afterall many party goers still give the angmohs wierd and finger pointing looks. Come on, this is a cosmopolitan city! I should dress up too the next time. ha... but dressing needs money.... will work hard then!
