I was browsing thru you tube when i saw channel u launch. OMG! I was present at the ceremony 7 years ago. How can i ever forget tat day in NUS UCC? It is indeed a pity to close the station. There were so much excitement during those days. I still remember Mediaworks holding events at Paragon, with pple pushing trolley, informing Singaporeans the launch of a new TV channel. They have so much to offer!
I caught one of the last transmission again. The new anchors from both channel, Channel U and Channel I were emotional. A friend of mine had a dubbed copy and i intend to borrow. hahah.. It must be damn cute to look at how it was 3 years ago. On the last day of Mediaworks transmission, i was out clubbing at Music Underground, with dearie and ken. hahahahha.. So fun!
I was having a business lunch a couple of days ago. One of the big boss asked abt the media industry. We were sharing some views on the closing down of the channels. Viewership has been falling due to competition from cable tv as well as new media like internet. Many young Singaporeans turned to internet cos news are more updated and there are podcast as well. There is no point watching tv as they could select the news that they wish to see.
Same for drama and other programs. They are all ready and one can watch at anytime at any point in time. There is no need to wait for a certain time to catch the drama. I seriously believe as time pass, the demand for tv programs will fall eventually. It will still exist but not as power as it used to be. Will there be a day when Internet replaces all traditional media? I guess we could only get an answer probably in 10 to 20 years!
